Drops is an innovative project by guitarist Kostas Tosidis, born from years of research and artistic collaboration. Emerging from his PhD work, the album explores the art of bow technique as applied to the guitar through transcriptions and new compositions that push the instrument’s traditional boundaries.
The recording features ten solo guitar works, eight of which were commissioned from composers who share a strong artistic and personal connection with Tosidis. These pieces were conceived as if they were meant for bowed instruments, reversing the usual direction of transcription. The album also includes a lesser-known work by Dutch composer Ton de Leeuw (1926–1996) and a transcription of piano music by Kostas Parisiadis (1982–).
The compositions are arranged in a symmetrical, mirror-like structure, with interludes placed at the beginning and end—brief, introspective pieces written by non-guitarist composers, and the only solo guitar works they have ever composed.
Drops is more than just a CD; it’s a sonic journey where technique, experimentation, and personal connection come together to offer a unique addition to the contemporary guitar repertoire.
